SOUTHINGTON -The rough winter took its toll on a beloved athletic facility in Southington .

The Southington Valley Midget Football league Fieldhouse had a frozen pipe burst which caused major damage to floors and walls,  the damage could total $110,000, according to league officials.

For the past two weeks, construction crews have been working overtime to replace sheetrock, tile flooring and everything else damaged after a frozen pipe burst inside the football facility.

The problem started in the concession stand area.

“Water was coming out of the walls, out of the ceiling, it even went into the electrical ducts,” said David Schneider, president of the Southington Valley Midget Football League.

The youth football league use the building for meetings and to store uniforms, which all had to professionally dry-cleaned.

The group has insurance, but it will cost them about $1,000, money they can’t afford to dish out, and the repairs needs to be done in time for football season..

“Money is always an issue because we get our money for donations. Something like this to pay out, that`s not in our budget,  that’s a big hit,” said Schneider.

The league will rely on loyal supporters for donations,  many started their football careers in this  league which has been in existence for 52 years.

“I grew up in the town and playing in this league and hearing what happened really hit the heart,” said Tom  Bentz, former SVML football player.

Construction crews hope to finish in four to six weeks. Kimbelry Beaudoin has two sons who playing in the league and her youngest will play for the first time this fall.

“We just want to see this league do really well. When things like this happen its hurtful but we’re hoping we pull through stronger than ever,” said Beaudoin.

The league is hosting  its inaugural Chili Cook-Off Fundraising Event on March 29th  from 12-5 p.m. at the Polish Falcons Club on 33 Knowles Avenue, Plantsville, CT.

The league has started a go-fund me page entitled “SVMFL Flood Fundraising Campaign.”

Letter to SVMFL Families & Coaches re: Fieldhouse Flooding

***PICTURES ARE IN PICTURES SECTION UNDER SVMFL FLOOD 2015***

Dear SVMFL Families & Coaches,

The purpose of this email/letter is to let everyone know that our Fieldhouse, Kitchen & Equipment room was recently destroyed.  We suffered severe water damage/flooding (due to a broken pipe) in the concession stand sometime during the week of 2/16/15.  The total value of the items that were deemed either a total loss or are in need of serious repairs is in excess of over $110,000 [one hundred-ten thousand dollars].

We have been working closely with our Insurance Company and the Town of Southington to itemize, replace/repair & clean all of the items that were in our facilities at the time of this disaster.  We are anxious to put this painful experience behind us and get back into our Field House by April/May.  Hopefully we will have everything restored back to where it was prior to this incident to prepare for our 2015 season.

As it stands right now we are looking at a 2 ½ - 3 month timeframe to have everything back in working order.  This is going to be a time-consuming process for the contractors to complete a daunting list of items ranging from demolition, cleaning, sanitizing, washing, replacing, building/new construction, electrical/plumbing, heating/AC, etc.

We will be posting pictures on our website http://svmfl.org/ over the next several days to show the extent of the damage that has occurred so everyone can understand the severity of this project that has only just begun.

With all of the above being said SVMFL will be hosting our 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off Fundraising Event on 3/29/15 from 12-5 p.m. at the Polish Falcons Club-33 Knowles Avenue, Plantsville, CT 06479.

I would like to personally Thank all of our SVMFL Families & Coaches in advance of your support of this event.

We will be sending out more information on the specifics of our fundraiser over the next few days, posting flyers throughout town and relying on our families, friends & neighbors to help us raise some much needed money for our league.

We would love to see full participation by all teams, coaches, players, families & friends.

Sincerely,

Dave Schneider
